Sutures are fibrous, immovable (synarthrosis) joints found exclusively in the skull. The bones of the adult skull are tightly interlocked by irregular, jagged suture lines (e.g., coronal, sagittal, lambdoid sutures). They allow no movement and provide a rigid, protective casing for the brain.
